One of the best ways to engage with your customers is to take advantage of the growing market of Instagram. This is especially great for entrepreneurs as it presents an excellent way to present your product in a way that pops visually. The only problem with Instagram marketing is that it opens you up to the possibility of Instagram spam followers. These are accounts that could potentially tarnish your brand’s image should any legitimate followers happen upon them. Aside from the ones that simply sit in your followers list, there are even some spam followers that will make spam comments. These comments are ugly, they make you look bad, and they might even lead to one of your real followers clicking on it. All it takes is one bad experience before a follower can leave your brand in the dust, so it’s important to take your IG marketing seriously and break up with those Instagram spam followers. Here’s why I did it and why you should too.
A purge is good.
It’s a good idea to periodically go through your followers list and get rid of any accounts that look spammy. It’s not enough to get rid of the ones that are obviously fake–you should get rid of the ones that don’t quite seem legitimate too. Sure, you might end up losing a sizeable chunk of your followers, but it’s all about quality over quantity when you’re getting into Instagram marketing. And besides, you won’t be the only one. After Instagram itself started purging spam accounts, some celebrities saw their followers list get reduced by as much as half. But again, ask yourself: Would you rather have a lot of followers, many of whom are Instagram spam followers, or less followers who are all legitimate? The second choice is far better.
Once you’ve purged the spam followers from your list, you’ll want to concentrate your efforts on deleting and flagging comments. You can choose either method at your discretion, depending on if you want the offending comment gone right away or if you’d rather Instagram delete the offender altogether. The choice is yours.
Automate your spam removal process.
It can be pretty tiring to manually go through all of your spam comments and followers, flagging or deleting comments and followers as you come across them. Instead, there’s a great way of speeding up this process so you can spend more time on making and promoting your product. There are a number of apps out there, such as Smart Moderation, that completely automate this process. Pretty nifty indeed.
Another option you have is to define what makes content “offensive” to you when in the settings of your Instagram account. Learn how to do this in my blog post here: https://envizionadvertising.com/moderate-instagram-comments-automatically-free/
If you’re just starting to get into IG marketing, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re putting your best foot forward. This is impossible to do if your Instagram followers are inundated with spam comments and follow requests. If you follow these steps and keep a watchful eye out for Instagram spam followers, you should have no problem keeping the spammers away.
